"Ah~" Ardeo stretched his arms upwards, staring up at the sky. The dreadful forest was at his back at last, and he was on track to travel as Trainers ought to. Without being trapped in mazes and chased all over the place. Which was a fantastic change of pace, hopefully he could keep up the streak. And Arde could only hope that the lazy Bulbasaur he caught was a sign of things starting to be less...Well, less terrible. He took a quick glance around to be sure no one was going to ambush him, before tossing two Poke'balls and releasing his Charmander and his Eevee.
Tak, for the most part, was feeling a little better after some rest in his 'Ball. He was by no means near max health, and was dying for a Pokemon Center - but it was nice to be out. And...~We made it out!~ he hopped up and down a few times and around around Ardeo's leg. ~We're out, we're out!~ he stepped in front of his trainer, rolling his shoulders, now he felt way better. To be away from the forest that had lots of ghosts inside of it was a huge relief. Mira, however, hopped onto Ardeo's shoulder and nested there- watching her surroundings with liquid brown eyes. "Yep! Time to get through this Meadow and we should be getting close to...Hm, what was it...Landark I think." he nodded, as though to confirm with himself. "Just a little farther and it'll be smooth sailing." he smiled, and the Poke'Morph and Charmander fell into step with eachother - intent to make good headway on reaching Landark.

The meadow was surprisingly bustling with activity, despite the shady nature of it. A trio of Paras huddled in a little group, making little chittering sounds and comparing mushrooms. Close by, a Weedle watched them warily, not wanting their group project to be eating him. In a completely different patch of grass, a Tangela sat, eyes hardly visible through the mass of blue tendrils, though it appeared to be staring up at the sky. Though no pokemon could be seen in them, the trees would occasionally rustle. Nothing seemed to pay Ardeo close attention as he indiscreetly entered their habitat.

(( Ardeo? As subtle as a brick in the small of your back. ))
Good headway came to an almost immediate stop as soon as Ardeo realized there were Pokemon here. He glanced at each in turn and...'They're not Ghost-types!' he almost leaped in the air with joy. 'Alright...Tak is pretty close to evolving. I should fight one of these guys.' he nodded. "Hmmmm...." But which? The Paras were ruled out - there were three and a chance all of them would want to fight...And the Weedle knew poison attacks so that left...The creepy mass of tentacles. Er. Vines. "Okay, Tak. Go fight that...Blue thing." he waved his hand at it, "With, Ember!" it didn't take a genius to realize the 'opposing' Pokemon was a Grass-type. A creepy, gross looking, Grass-type.
Tak looked uncomfortable at attacking the mass of...blue tentacles. But the Eevee on his Trainer's shoulder was giving him such a strange look that the Charmander felt like it would be almost...demeaning to not attack. He nodded, ~R-right.~ He took a few steps and then inhaled...And when he exhaled he fired a salvo of embers at what he assumed was an unassuming Pokemon. Ardeo was normally nicer than this, but being so close to being a Charmeleon must have cost him his manners today.

All the Pokemon in the forest stopped when a sudden fire erupted. There was a shrill noise from the huddling group of Paras, and the Weedle made quick work of climbing up the tree in fear, slightly relieved that this gave him an easy, though frightening, means of escape.
The Tangela was caught unaware, and started off the battle with a burn. Some of the tendrils crunched as he got to his feet, and he shook himself to rid the crisps from his body. Without a moment of hesitation, two large tendrils emerged, one aiming for Tak's leg, and the other attempting to catch him by an arm. Angry eyes peered through the blue, glaring angrily at both the fire-type and trainer.

Tak let out a very unmanly squeak as the tendrils wrapped firmly around his one leg and arm, flailing his free limbs in a panic. "Calm down Tak!" Ardeo called, "You can still breathe fire! Ember!" the trainer was taking no chances on this battle. He obviously planned to keep blasting the Grass-type with the only super-effective move the young Charmander had in his arsenal. Tak did his best to buck up a little, Arde was right. He could still breathe fire at the ball of...Vines? He hoped they were vines and not the tentacles he was thinking of earlier. He opened his mouth and fired another round of Embers at the angry Tangela, waving his tail at the offending tendrils for good measure.

As he got another blast of firey hot breath, the Tangela tightened his grip on the Charmander, attempting to lift him off his feet and slam him back towards the earth with as much strength as he could manage. He flinched when the burn arose, causing immense pain on his face area. Why couldn't this opponent be a very confused Totodile instead?
What had he even done, anyways? He was just minding his own business when bam! he was attacked. The grass-type struggled to remember that trick his dad taught him to do in a sticky situation, but it was so long ago, and he'd never had a need for it...

With great effort, Takerl did his best to stay firmly planted on the earth. But it was no use, he felt himself get lifted up and slammed back down into the ground he'd once called a friend. ~Owwww...~ Now with his head facing skyward there wasn't too much he could do... 'Well, we just gotta get him free.' "Alright Tak! Try to cut those lines with Shadow Claw!" he wasn't sure if it would hurt the Tangela, but it was worth a shot. The Charmander nodded, dipped a claw very quickly into his shadow with his free arm and making a swipe for the vine that entangled his leg. If he could get his legs back under him he'd have a better shot at victory.

Strong thoughts, strong thoughts. Penetrate the mind... On his way back up to slam the Charmander to the ground again, he felt a short pain as his tendrils were cut. He had more, of course, but the inner ones were always more sensitive. Pulling them back quickly, he hoped the fire-type wouldn't be able to land on his feet on the way down.
Eyes narrowed angrily, he decided to try the move. He found the Charmander again, focusing on it. With a internal wipe of his mind, he lashed out psychically with Confusion. The purple that surrounded him and departed towards the opponent was startling, even for him. He took a few steps back with a look of complete surprise.

The Charmander twisted un-gracefully in the air and landed on all fours, looking pretty triumphant. That hadn't been so hard, after all! 'Maybe I do have a shot at this!' Ardeo shot him a thumbs up, and was about to tell him to fire off another round of Embers when, rather suddenly, purple energy slammed into him. Takerl reeled upwards, clutching his head and tottering around a little. ~aaaaaugh.~ he swayed from side to side, vision blurred. What the heck was going on? He frowned, and just fired an Ember at what he assumed to be the Tangela. His head was pounding.

The move didn't do what he expected, of course. His father could control the opponent, not just blast them back. Another rush of embers came towards him, but he threw himself at the side, using vines like hands to protect his body. The fire ate at them, and they shriveled to nothing, but he had avoided the worst of the attack.
Hoping the opponent was still in pain from the strange attempt at a Confusion, he jumped forward, shaking the remaining tendrils and producing a puff of glittering blue powder around him and hopefully around his opponent in an attempt to knock him out with Sleep Powder.

There appeared to be at least six Tangelas that Tak was fighting now, and he teetered back on his legs a few steps. ~...whaafrghhtrr~ he mumbled, shaking his head back and forth. He couldn't keep the images straight, but he knew that there was only one Tangela. 'Crap.' Ardeo glared at the Grass-type. This should have been an easy battle, but he hadn't been expecting the blob of tendrils to know a move like Confusion. Was that even legal? "C'mon Tak!" encouragement was about all he could do at this point, attempting to give direct instructions to a Pokemon that was confused was a terrible idea. In fact, what the Charmander ended up doing was using Shadow Claw, tripping over his own tail and tumbling away from the blue Pokemon. It was the most ungraceful dodge the Blaziken had ever seen. But at least he wasn't asleep. He was definitely still confused though, because he was walking towards a rock. "Ugh, I hate moves like that." he muttered, cross with the Grass Pokemon.

This time, the Tangela managed to dodge the move entirely. A feat that wasn't really hard with the quality of his opponent at this point. It was clear the Charmander was as confused as they got.
Watching the Pokemon run towards the rock was amusing, but short lived as the grass-type lashed out with more vines, trying to grab and Constrict his opponent into submission. Part of him didn't want to drag something full of fire that closed to him, but if he could hold him tight enough, maybe he could squeeze the flames back inside of him. Or something like that.

The Charmander felt the vines wrap around him, and pull tight. He choked a little, panicked, and began to thrash and struggle against the binding appendages. To him they looked like snakes, ready to bite him with long fangs filled with venom. "Chaaaaaaaaaar!" Tak began to shoot Embers every which way - hoping to scare the snakes away.
Ardeo watched, wishing he had an item that could cure Confusion. This was painful to watch for the trainer, 'Maybe I ought to return him...' it was the only way to wipe the Confusion out, but then he'd have to switch and share the experience...

The Tangela winced when the fire ate at his tendrils, causing more to fall away. He squeezed harder with what remained, using Absorb for just a few seconds to try and balance the increasing burn. He retreated when he couldn't take it any longer, the Charmander's flame reaching its mark too many times for comfort.
The burn ate at him, and he staggered back when he released his opponent. It was just a little longer before he'd be out of the game all together, but he hoped he'd at least be able to take out this damned fire type.

Tak cried out when the Absorb hit, though not very effective on him, seemed to be multiplied in pain due to his mental state. When the Tangela released him he fell over, laying on his side for a few moments, eyes wide. He was trying to remember...What he was doing. What was going on, where he was, when suddenly it was like something snapped and the world came crushing back into sense. Painfully. ~Augh.~ he clutched his head in his claws, feeling a pounding sensation. He felt like a particularly battered Psyduck. ~Rrrgh.~ unsteadily, the Charmander returned to his feet, leaned a little to the left, straightened and then glared down at the Grass-type. It was on now.
Ardeo was impressed, all his second thoughts wiped away. "Alright! Tak, use Smokescreen!" they couldn't afford another hit like that, and the smoke cover would happily make the fire-type a much harder target to hit. Takerl nodded, opened his mouth to let out smoke instead of his usual fire, breathing it out over the battlefield and shirking into the darkness.
