It didn't take long before the silence was interrupted once again. A squawking noise from another tree nearby and a flurry of feathers alerted anyone nearby to the presence of a flock of Pidgeys. The birds lifted off, soaring above Rowan- that is, until one flew a little too low, and flew at an uncontrollable speed directly at Rowan herself. This bird was clearly quite new at this. [/size]

Rowan was going to respond to the Oddish with some kind of remark that would most likely not help much, when the flock of Pidgeys cut her off. She glanced up at the sky, following the leading ones for a moment, trying to see where they'd land. It'd be nice to catch a sturdy pokemon like a Pidgey, and she'd want the strongest one from the flock for sure. She averted her gaze from the one she decided on just in time to have something collide with her chest.
It completely knocked he wind out of her, making her stumble back and catch herself on a tree. She wrapped her arms instinctively around it, finding herself with a handful of... feathers? "What-" She asked, letting go immediately in order to let the poor thing regain itself, "Did you seriously just run into me?" Part of her hoped it was some kind of attempt at attacking her, rather than a blunder on the Pokemon's part. What was with all these clumsy pokemon?

The small brown feathered bird was still for a moment, reveling in the softness that he had landed in, before peering up at Rowan. He thought for a moment, before replying with a nearly parroted phrase, ~I seriously did just run into you.~ and if a bird had lips to smile with, then he would be smiling, ~Thank you for catching me, pretty lady.~ he offered, chirping softly. The Pidgey fluffed his feathers up at little bit; checking to make sure that his wings were in working order, before returning a curious and (might he add, adorable) expression back to the trainer.

"You are welcome..." She said in a low voice, pushing herself from the tree and dusting off her arm. She pulled a feather off of her clothes, tossing it to the side as she continued. "And why, exactly, did you do so?" Here it was. When he'd tell her he couldn't fly, and he and her Oddish would becomes best friends in their newfound similarities. "Should I be concerned that the next time you... land," Crash, not land, "You will be unconscious in a tree somewhere?"

The Pidgey looked affronted. He looked hurt that Rowan would even suggest he wasn't good at flying. ~I, uh. Got. Hit by a stray gust of wind.~ he fluffed his feathers, flapping himself free of her (comfortable) chest and landing (maybe a little unsteadily) on the ground. ~Well to be honest, I'm just starting. But it'll come to me, with a little practice. Today is only day two, you know. I bet you didn't learn how to fly in a day.~ he looked Rowan over, and then the Oddish, ~Or. Uh. Whatever it is you do. Walking?~ he stretched his wings outwards, showing them off a little, giving her another cute bird look in his eyes. As if this would properly impress her with his blossoming apparent flying skills.

When it came to cute looks, Rowan was pretty oblivious. Of course, that wasn't to say she wasn't capable of producing them herself. Suddenly, her expression softened. She puckered her lips a little bit in a pout, and said, "Oh, those stray gusts of wind this time of year can be tough. I am sure glad you are okay."
The sincerity in her voice was nonexistent, and her Oddish laughed a little. Though, immediately after, she felt guilty when her trainer pointed out, "But then again, my Oddish has a hard enough time walking and I am sure she has been doing it over a day." Rowan didn't even notice the discouraged expression on her Pokemon, crossing her arms and pointing out, "Though it seems the rest of your flock aren't having troubles."

Missing the sarcasm completely, the Pidgey nodded. They sure were. But he fluffed his chest feathers at the light accusation of the better skills of the other Pidgey. ~I am the youngest~ he said by way of explanation, and flapped hard at the ground - lifting up with...relative ease. He was off the ground by about a foot, before a final flap got him well into the air. He soared around her head, before landing unsteadily on a branch. ~But I'm still okay at flying.~ he tilted his head to lock eyes with her, and then found himself wondering why he was explaining himself to a human. Well. She was a pretty human.

"I see." She said, watching him land ungracefully on the branch. "Well, I am sorry to say I remain unconvinced about your abilities..." She sighed, as if deeply regretful of this news before looking down at her Oddish. The grass-type blinked up at her, unsure about her role here.
"Yeah!" She finally said quickly, hopping, "We only need to spend time on the best of the best if we want to succeed!" Rowan gave a little smile at her enthusiasm, but it was short lived. Though her Oddish was learning, she still had a long way to go in the form of verbal elegance.
"But..." Rowan began, and trailed off as she looked at him, "I know how you can convince me." She stopped there, as if debating something. "Not to say you are interested in proving anything a human, but I do love Pokemon who can fight... Maybe if you could defeat my Oddish in a match..." She frowned ever so slightly before shaking her head. "Nevermind. You have better things to do than impress me, I am sure. We will be off!"

The Pidgey blinked at her disbelief. Well, sure he wasn't the "best of the best" just yet. But he was only just getting the hang of flying. He puffed his feathers out, he wasn't really sure why. But she was wrong, he honestly felt like he needed to prove himself to this tall lady. He flapped his wings, gliding and landing with a little more precision than earlier, black eyes narrowed. ~I can prove it.~ he cawed, raising his wings up a little, ~And I will prove it.~

Her eyebrows raised in a well-played expression of surprise. "You will?" She smiled and gestured to her Oddish now, beckoning her forward, "Alright, Spearow, show me what you are capable of." In the back of her head, she added the obvious advantage the bird Pokemon had over her grass-type, but she wouldn't point that out. She'd just hope he won so the battle would be a little less embarrassing.
Her Oddish stepped toward him, wondering if she was meant to win this battle or not. Was what her trainer had said just meant to challenge him, or did she actually want him to beat her? She hoped the latter didn't result in Rowan's disappointment with her. The thought was interrupted when the order, "Growth!" came from behind her. She pressed her feet in the dirt, and dragged as much energy as she could from it.

He nodded, once, at her question - tilting himself slightly forward in anticipation, and then he nearly fell over in shock. ~I'm a Pidgey!~ he crowed, fluffing himself out with self-importance. What a terrible mix-up! He turned his attention back to his new opponent, having never really fought an Oddish, he wasn't sure what to expect. And who knew what amazing moves a self-confident Trainer like this lady might have...- Growth? The Pidgey looked the Oddish up and down. Nothing seemed all that different....He tilted his head, and hopped around the Grass-type a little, waiting to see a change. Besides the soft glow, he made a note of...Absolutely nothing. He let out a hmph before slamming the dirt below him with hard gusts of wind- aiming a Sand Attack at the Oddish.

Rowan smiled a little at the opponent, enjoying his indignance. "Sorry, I always imagine Pidgeys to be the graceful ones." With that she offered a shrug, not feeling the need to explain what she meant by that. She watched the sand rise from the ground, and cloud around her Pokemon. It was a sand-attack only a Pidgey could make, and she hoped her Pokemon had enough reflexes to avoid the worst of it.
The Oddish closed her eyes and shielded her face against the rush of sand, feeling the little grains pelt against her leaves. She didn't even stumble back, her feet still well embedded into the earth. Over the deafening wind surrounding her, it was hard to hear Rowan's order of, "Sweet Scent!". She kept her eyes closed, thankful that she was given a move that didn't require accuracy. As her leaves shook in the Pidgey's move, pink powder fluttered from her leaves and twisted in the sandy gust.

The wild Pokemon tossed Rowan a somewhat hurt look. He was graceful! ...Sometimes. He could be more graceful if he really wanted to. What was the point to it, anyway? He clacked his beak together as the powder splashed over him, in his silent monologue, he hadn't even though to escape but...Again, he didn't really note anything all that different. He tilted his head, and hopped to the left. Nothing. He bundled himself up and launched toward the Oddish in a Tackle. Time to get serious.

She was still blinking away some of the dirt that had escaped through her leaves when she was struck by the Tackle. With her accuracy down, and one move behind, she felt rushed to get back on her feet.
"Absorb." Was all Rowan offered. No warning of the next attack, or giving her a backup plan to follow. She wondered at this point if she was even expected to win. It was not in her nature to challenge a bird, and maybe there was a reason for that. She didn't let her inner questioning get ahead of her though, and she shook herself as the green, sapping light headed in the Pidgey's direction.

Seeing the green light come his way, he didn't bother to move away from it. He took it without blinking, and gave the Oddish a hard look. He was in Serious Mode now. And a move like that? Didn't she do any training before throwing around those insults? He rushed at the bulb of grass in another Tackle, beak turned down in grim determination.
