Luke took a deep breath as he stood at the entrance to route 1, looking out at desert sand ahead of him. Taraji had insisted on staying in his pokeball, and his Entei was still in his, as well; right now, Thorne the Cacturne was out. As much as Luke didn't want him to be, the cactus pokemon was made for deserts...it made sense, didn't it? It was sitting in a bored fashion on the ground, it's odd hat shadowing it's face from the sun that beat down on them. Luke glanced down at it with a bit of a frown before flipping out his match call, one hand on his hip; Annamarie said she'd meet him here, didn't she? He shook his head, flipping it shut and stuffing it in his pocket. There wasn't any reason to worry about this. He'd wait for a while. People were late now and then. And he was early, anyways. So he sat down next to the Cacturne. "Hey. Stay outta my personal space, blueberry-hair." Thorne snapped, standing up and walking a metre away and sitting down again. Luke's jaw dropped open. What a disrespectful pokemon. Nonetheless, he ruffled his hair a bit in spite of himself, and leaned back, letting out a yawn as he kept his eyes peeled on the sidewalk leading up to where he was now. Hopefully she'd come soon...sure, he had lots of pokemon to be friends already, but it'd be nice to have her there.

It took a while, and soon enough, Luke began to doubt whether or not Annamarie would ever come...Thorne wasn't helping. <I bet she's forgotten all 'bout you, thickhead.> Snide comments like that had been coming from him for the past half an hour, and finally, Luke stood up, frustrated with himself. I'm sure she hasn't forgotten me, but I can't just...sit here forever...she'll call if she wants. And I'll call her once I get to Tarro, at least... he decided, figuring it was reasonable. The Cacturne looked up in surprise as he stood up, and Thorne followed his lead. <You finally gunna start walkin', mutation-kid?> he chided, yawning and exposing several thorn-like fangs as he did so. Luke flicked his eyes to the side to look at the pokemon before nodding. "Yeah. We'll head out now. Come on." he gestured for Thorne to follow him, but the Cacturne insisted on going first, and the two of them headed out into the desert. Luke's ears and hair were pushed in front of his face from the wind, while Thorne seemed totally at home, walking through it as if it was nothing. Regardless, Luke's eyes were peeled for any sign of pokemon...this was his chance to make more friends, after all.

Far up ahead, a Hippopotas "ran" across the desert, sand spilling out of the hole on his back as he tore forward. His belly rubbed against the ground with each lumbering step, and it was obvious by his gasping breaths that he was not used to running.
Behind him, the twin heads of a greenish yellow Doduo were bickering, talking over each other about some subject before stopping, turning sharply so that their beaks were touching, coming close to the other head's eye before turning, shaking them and bickering again.

Luke glanced up as he noticed the pokemon, and so did Thorne, watching the two pokemon with obvious disinterest. Nonetheless, Luke smiled as he recognized the species; Doduo and a Hippopotas...the Hippo pokemon he expected to be here, but he was a bit surprised at the Doduo. Nonetheless, it was quite a fast bird and didn't need to fly, so it made sense it could survive here as well. "Hello," he called out to the bird pokemon, glancing over at the Hippopotas again however, wondering if it had heard him. Thorne poked Luke in the arm as the boy came to be next to the Cacturne. "Ouch," Luke said quietly. "What was that for?" <You just said "hello" to a pokemon. You could have sent me to attack it.> "But there's no reason to attack." Luke replied with a bored expression, and Thorne looked up, raising an eyebrow in genuine confusion as if he was looking at someone with two heads. Still expectant, Luke glanced back to the bird pokemon, hoping it would reply somehow; or, the Hippopotas, if it had heard him...

Both of the bird pokemon's heads looked up, staring at Luke for a little while before turning to each other. They looked into one another's eyes for at least thirty seconds before the one on the left said, "Look what you did." "What I did?! Look at what you did! It was obviously your loud beak!" "You're louder! Your voice gives me headaches on the side of my face, you know!"
The desert hippo pokemon looked at the trainer, stumbling over his feet. One look at the fighting bird pokemon, however, sent him running again. Obviously not too social.

Luke blinked, watching the bird pokemon awkwardly. He glanced back towards where the hippopotas was, and chuckled a bit as it tripped over it's feet before running off. Pokemon were funny to watch. ...and these Doduos seemed to be a good example... Unsure what to say, Luke lifted his hand to scratch the back of his neck as he smiled. "Actually, I saw you guys...that's why I said hello, not because I heard one of you..." he said, hoping it would calm them down somewhat. It looked like such a hassle to have two heads...maybe it wouldn't be so bad on regular circumstances, but these two looked like they were sick of each other.

They both got quiet to listen to him explain. Once he was done there was a silence before they both turned sharply to face each other, their beaks once again running parallel to each other and the sharp pointed end of them hovering over the other's eye. The one on the left started up, his voice rising as he spoke to an accusation. <See what you done? DO YOU SEE WHAT YOU DONE? You gone and made him see us. Your stupid large head gone and brought a trainer over here to attack us.> <What I done?> The other squawked indignantly, <We already 'cided you're the tallest. Plus your head is much bigger.> They both turned to face Luke, obviously searching for some kind of back up on their part. <Do you SEE what I'm stuck with?> They both said in unison, fluffing their wings out and stepping forward towards the trainer in irritation.

Luke took a nervous step back, lifting up his hands and smiling, laughing nevously. "No, no...I'm not going to attack." he said hurriedly, waving his hands back and forth dismissively. <What?> Thorne turned to look at Luke in disappointment. <Come on, let me go over and punch their bird-brains together.>"No!" Luke frowned, looking at the Cacturne angrily. "Geez, you're terrible. I should have just kept Taraji out instead."<Yeah, ya should have.> Thorne complained, looking at the Doduo's in annoyance. Luke turned his gaze back to the two of them as well. "You guys are surprisingly alike..." he stated, scratching the back of his neck and watching them with interest. <Me?! Like HIM?> Both of their voices made a high pitched squeal of indignation and they stepped forward, feathers on their head rising and their little wings flaring out again. They stepped forward, their large feet moving slowly as they leaned in towards the trainer. <I am nothing like him.> The one on the left said. <Yeah, he's too stupid to be like me.> <I'M too stupid.> The other snapped, stopping while the other kept walking forward, making them stumble awkwardly. The other snapped his head towards his other head, and they stared at one another angrily. <See what you done? Your clumsy self tripped us. On what? Oh, on nothin'. Thas right, nothin'. > The head said, looking at the ground as if to spot a large opposing rock that they might have stumbled over only to find fine sand below their feet.

Luke blinked, watching them with mild curiousity. What a strange pokemon; he really couldn't imagine what it would be like to have two heads. "It might be cliche, but at least you guys can agree that you don't agree, right? Haha..." he laughed nervously. Does that even work in this situation? he thought, scratching his head and looking upwards as if he'd find some answer in a fluffy cloud. "Haha, I trip over nothing all the time, and I don't even have two heads!" Luke chuckled. It was true, too. All those times in the lab...getting trainers their new pokemon...yikes. Thorne, meanwhile, was staring at all of them incredulously. <I'm amazed at how idiotic all of you are,> he stated simply and casually, shaking his head slowly as if he couldn't even comprehend it. Still, he turned to the birds- or...bird, he figured- and grinned, a little thorny fang once again appearing from his mouth. <Yo,> he called out to the Doduo, <You wanna have a battle? I bet the two of you can hardly cooperate in a fight if you can't even walk.> he challenged, smirking. Luke frowned, looking at Thorne in frustration. "You're terrible, you can't just decide if you're going to have a battle with them or not." he complained. Thorne shrugged, and walked forwards. <I just did. Now go splash around with some water guns or something, blastoise-boy.> Thorne raised a hand(?), and waved it dismissively towards Luke, who gawked. He was gonna have some trouble with this guy...I didn't know a pokemon could have so much personality, he thought with a bored expression.

The Dodue bickered over the boy and the pokemon, not bothering to listen to what either of them said as they argued, pausing only when the Cacturne seemed to be directing not-so-nice things in their way. They turned to listen, beaked opening in clear distaste, arguments on their tongue for when he finished. <For your information.> One snapped. <We work good together when we battle.> The other continued. <OR when we see> The first said, and the bird took one step towards the pokemon. <Pesky.> Another step. <Annoying.> Another step. <Good for nothing, useless pokemon like you.> They were in his face now, both sharp beaks pointed directly in his face.
After a moment of silence, the one on the left whispered, <You made that less threatening. Pesky? REALLY?> The other replied with a smack against the first's beak with his own, eyes narrowed still at the cactus pokemon.

Thorne was surprised inside; so they had some guts. Though, he would never let that show through. Instead, a satisfied smirk spread across his face and he straightened up. <Prove it.> he snapped, folding his arms. He made no effort to move back, and Luke blinked. If they were gonna fight, wouldn't he want more space? But the Cacturne just stayed there, waiting for some sort of a move to come his way.
"Thorne-" Now the pokemon moved. He turned around, glaring at Luke. <And don't give me any stupid orders either! Turtle. You're probably too slow for battles anyways.> he scoffed, sending a side glare at Luke before turning back around to face the birds.
Luke shut his mouth, slapping a hand to his face. Just traveling with this guy would be hell. At least once they got through the desert, he wouldn't have to have him out as much. Just get through, just get through, just get through... And secretly, Luke wondered how good of a battler this guy was. He was only level 5; he'd come out of a generator, and he was so full of himself already... Letting his shoulders relax, the boy let out a sigh, and waited.

Both of the beaks hesitated as he challenged them, clearly surprised by his actions. <Fine.> One of them snapped, and both of them lunged forward with a unison Peck attack, both knowing that grass was weak against flying moves. Even if they argued, they were good battlers. Once they had done their attack, they both took a quick step back, stumbling since they tried to do it at the same time and then regaining balance, watching him. <You won't win> The one who had not spoken before said.

The Cacturne stumbled backwards from the impact, and Luke rolled his eyes. Idiot, he thought to himself, feeling frustration rise inside himself. Doduo is a flying type. You're gonna get killed. he frowned, but watched anyways as Thorne stopped, lifting himself back up. At the same time though, Luke admitted that Thorne had more attacks to use. Still, the type disadvantage would be a definite pain. And he had less speed, too. Still, Thorne sent a poison sting towards the Doduo, and then used Absorb, another small little stinger being sent towards the pokemon in an attempt to suck HP.

The head on the left ducked to avoid the first stinger, noticing the second as it hit the second. <Idiot! Why didn't you dodge that?!> The left one said, glowering at the right one as they were both sapped of their health. <Shuttup and attack.> The right one grumbled, and they jumped forward with another Peck attack, both their beaks lashing out violently.
