This was the second time that Lai was starting off on an adventure, although it was by no means the second time he was starting from a lab. But with his parents refusing to give him a new pokemon, or even really forgive him for what he did with his last ones in his wasteful and careless ways, this was the only other option.
Lai shook out his hair before he walked up to the door of the futuristic building and let out a bored sigh. He hadn't really taken much of a thrill from his first pokemon and he didn't expect this to be very different.
Knocking on the door, he let out his few words: "Hey, anyone there?"

”Yes.. duh.” called out a slow paced baritone voice. The door opened for Lai to face a stern looking man, his height exceeding Lai’s as he stood stony faced in front of him. His whitecoat revealed his layered muscle and his buzzcut seemed frightening at the least. Yet, for some reason, he stood inside the laboratory rather than respectively on a motorcycle or a monster truck. Slowly he backed out the door, allowing Lai to walk through it. “In.”
Once he would walk in, he would greet a fancily designed room with a small, skinny man lying in a chair with his legs spread out on a table. Fancy music echoed across the walls, a Loudred bouncing excitedly in front of the music player it emerged from. It made weird, demented sounds, seemly excited as it made a racket with its stomping feet. The small man whistled, making both the large man and the Loudred stop what they did and look towards him. Looking at the bodybuilder, he pointed at the Pokemon with a cool expression. The man rushed over to the Big Voiced Pokemon and ushered it away from the music.
The man in command slid his hands together and gently smiled at Lai. “Hello, welcome to Sandwind’s very own Laboratory. I assume you’re here for a Pokemon.. Which type, please?” His voice was so light it nearly seemed feminine, and his skinny body, smooth skin and slender hands didn't help.

Lai glared at the man for a moment before he reluctantly entered the lab. The loudred was loud enough for him to distinctly hear it from outside, and he found it somewhat annoying.
As Lai entered the room, he gave a quick look around before it occured to him that he had been asked what type of pokemon he wanted. What DID he want? He took a moment to consider it, not entirely sure what he wanted. He thought, and thought, then thought some more. Finally, he concluded that he wanted...
"The flying type," Lai said.

A wide, fake grin spread across his face as he was reminded of unpleasant memories. “ Ahh. Flying type,” he said in a sing song voice. “ So graceful, with them you can.. For a second the blond-haired man cracked. “ Um.. Fly. Urr- Jared!” The large man whisked away from the Loudred, crossing his arms behind his back uniformly. “ Yes, sir?” The boy flicked his hand near a large, high-tech piece of equipment. “ Leave Melody be and get some Flying types out.”He seemed a bit bitter now, clenching his teeth as he waited for his henchman to follow out the command. The man bowed quickly and rushed over to the machine to insert Lai’s request. As the machine started up, the skinny boy turned back to the trainer, beginning a conversation more to himself than to Lai. “ See, Jared is so great. He’s Melody’s caretaker, and practically my servant.” The man at the machine showed no reaction to his degrading words. “ See, I got no sleep, you don’t really get any with a Loudred.. But hey! Now I do, happy ending. Plus I think Melody wasn’t cooked all the way when she was born.” The boy stared at Melody as she flung her arms wildly and let out a horrible sound, so loud it even made Jared flinch. “ That’s called singing,” the boy muttered hoarsely. The attention was brought back to Jared as he walked to the center of the room with four pokeballs carefully perched in his hands. He let three fall freely out of them, making sure the one he didn’t drop was the mystery ball. They all dropped at the same time, releasing three different Flying types. The first was a Mantyke, soaring out of her pokeball with huge grin plastered on her tiny face. She did many flips in the air, whizzing past Lai’s face with a wink in her eyes. She acted very much like a sea lion at a aquatic amusement park, giving off a show to please the audience. She paused a feet from the trainer’s face, waiting to see his reaction to her performance. The next was a Natu, seeming a bit timid as it cautiously tiptoed near Lai. He began to analyze the boy’s shoes, tilting its head in thought as it tried to comprehend their purpose. It looked up to him, as if asking if he knew what their meaning was. His eyes seem calm and collected as he stared at him. A Swablu was also out with the others, cheerful like the Mantyke but as shy as the Natu. She stared as the Mantyke outdid her, and she drew farther back from Lai, but when he would at her a big smile would come across her face and she would spin in a few circles, looking cute and bashful. She couldn’t say if she minded being picked or not.. But she did feel lonely, and it would be nice if she was. (( This board is funny to me, because this guy used to be a total wreck. Plus you chose the same type as the first person. xD ))

((I did? Really? Lol))
Lai looked between all of the pokemon. He shook his head to the Mantyke. The little show off. He looked down, only to see the little Natu. The little guy was cute, to be sure, but Lai didn't know if he really wanted such a pokemon. He seemed rather timid. Finally, Lai looked to the Swablu. He took a moment, watching the little pokemon, and then he smiled softly.
It was a tough decision between the natu and Swablu, but Lai nodded back at the two men, saying, "Swablu for sure."

(( Click on the words ‘this guy used to be a wreck’ if you want to see the board. X3 )) Name; {Trainer’s Choice} Gender; Female Personality; This Swablu is a quiet and bashful pokemon, but her absent voice is replaced with her tender care for her trainer and anyone else they will associate with. She loves to explore new things and is very obedient of her trainer’s word. Level; 5 Moveset; Growl | Peck | Astonish Ability; Natural Cure- Her status returns to normal when she leaves battle. The boy had been watching the Mantyke with a smile, enjoying the show she had fabricated and performed with no one else’s work. He appreciated that. Melody stared up at the flying sting ray too, a surge of jealousy suddenly flooding over her. She scowled menacingly and began to bounce up and down on the ground, blasting noise from her amp ears like a little girl on a tantrum. This caused her owner to scramble and fall out of his chair, but unlike him, Jared did not panic. Instead he took out a little tube the size of a straw and put it to his mouth, giving it a sharp blow. In an instant, Melody had stopped altogether, a tiny feathered dot sticking from her neck. Like a building she collapsed to the ground with a large thud. The boy had relocated to his seat, his hair ruffled and his arms a bit twitchy. “ So, ah. You like the Swablu the most. I was sure you would pick the Mantyke, it was.. it was my favorite.” He accentuated the my because he understood that some people hadn’t liked it the way he did. He sighed and rubbed his forehead for a moment while Jared ran to the back of the room to retrieve something. “ Jared will present you with your starter kit and the Swablu’s ball.”As he had talked, the servant had returned the other pokemon and moved Melody’s body aside, and in his hands he carried the strap of a backpack and the common red-and-white pokeball. Inside the bag was: Potions x4 Pokeballs x5 Oran berries x4 Revive x1 Pokedex x1 Town Map x1 “ Have a nice journey,” the boy said with exhaustion.

((Lol))
"Thanks," Lai said as he accepted the bag, although his voice was insincere. He took the pokeball, and for the time being he returned Swablu into it. Without another word, he had seen enough and was ready to leave for the next route. This time though, he was just looking for some pokemon.
