An albino Pidgeot Pokémorph was walking through the streets of Sasqui City. A smile was on his face, something that had rarely happened in his past. A few people held their gaze longer than usual, but not too many were actually staring. He was incredibly pleased by this. After all, back in his home region, he'd have people throwing Arcues-knows-what at him. Here, he was treated almost like a regular person. He might be as white as a ghost, his eyes might be blazing red, he might have Pidgeot features, but here, people didn't care. They actually managed to accept his existance. In fact, he found this so strange, he half-expected a knife weilding lunatic to come out the shadows at any moment. So far, none had.
Up ahead, he could see the building where he would be recieving his starter Pokémon. Good. He was pretty nervous, Butterfree wreaking havoc in his stomach. He needed to take a few deep breaths, but that did little to settle himself. He could do this. He knew he could. He was in this wonderful new region, and so he could do anything here. This region was freedom, it was new beginnings. He could leave his past behind and become a new Connor. He had to just leave behind the worried nagging the back of his mind that would only apply to his old region, and move on. This was hard, but he could move on none the less. Doing just that, he reached out with a pale arm and knocked on the door.

A little boy with scruffy brown hair answered the door, and beamed as he saw Connor. He couldn't have paid less attention to the fact that he was albino and had Pidgeot features- but his eyes widened. "You... are... the COOLEST THING EVER!" the little boy fumed. "You've got white skin! WOAH! AND RED EYES! I wish I looked like that!" He frowned, gesturing to his brown eyes and brown hair, and pale skin, and completely normal body. "See? I'm boring, I'm normal. Geez. Oh!" the boy paused, suddenly realizing what he was supposed to do.
"Um, welcome-to-the-Sasqui-Pokemon-Laboratory, are-you-here-to-get-a-pokemon?" the boy asked rather mechanically, reciting the words he'd had to memorize to get this job.

Connor blinked in surprise. Wha...? This boy actually wanted to be like him? The 'morph smiled slightly. This region never stopped shocking him. Hey, it was a good thing. Yes, it was definately good in this case. He wasn't being attacked, he was being admired. He hadn't been admired before, and it felt good. At any rate, he was inside a laboratory, and no-one had tried to trap him yet. So far, so good.
Ah, the boy had asked a question! "Yeah, I am." he nodded. Then he remembered his manners. "Oh! My name's Connor." he introduced himself to the stranger. That was what people normally did when meeting each other for the first time, right? Then... maybe the boy would want to know what type of Pokémon he wanted. That was how this system worked, right? Well, he was fairly sure he had to say what type he wanted. "I think I know how the system works... could I get a Flying type?" he asked politely and predicatbly.

The boy beamed, deciding this trainer was officially his new hero. A pokemon trainer! Of course, this was the boy's first time in the lab, but... still. Surely not every trainer who came by looked like this? "Connor? Nice to meet ya! I'm Ted!" he introduced himself, still smiling. For a moment he just stood there, his far-too-long labcoat dragging on the floor, until his mind registered what Connor had said. "...could I get a Flying type?" "Oh, yeah! Flying! Sure thing!" The boy ran back to the machine, which was blocked off- he had to duck under a yellow tape. It had gone under serious renovation after, well, after an accident earlier in the lab... Ted still didn't know what had happened.
He punched in the letters in the machine, and each button clicked loudly as they were pressed. F-L-Y-I-N-G appeared on the screen, and the digital pikachu, now with one of it's arms in a cast, sat glumly on the screen. A thought bubble appeared above it's head of a pikachu flying. Apparently, the little pikachu trapped in the machine wished it had wings so it could fly far, far, away. (There isn't actually a pikachu trapped in the machine. Really.)
Four pokeballs fell out into their designated spots, and Ted hopped over, rolling back his gigantic sleeves so he could pick them up. Happily, he tossed the first three into the air with a sort of trick he did by holding all three. It looked like something he had practiced a lot, simply to look cool.
The first pokemon to appear was a Doduo- it hopped out on the floor and stalked forwards, looking at Connor with curiosity before continuing to walk around the room, it's two heads inspecting different things as it moved along. The second was a Murkrow. Upon being released, it flapped it's dark wings to fly up and land on a bar above Connor. Now it swung downwards, hanging... upside down, his head tilted to the side, watching the strange new trainer. The third was a tiny green bird, which hopped out onto the floor. It stared with unblinking eyes at Connor, finally waddling over to him, and tapping his feet with it's beak. It was a Natu.
The last pokeball was held onto tightly with both hands by Ted, who resolved not to drop it. During his lab training, he had dropped the pokeball- and the mystery pokemon had been released! He couldn't do that in any real situation, since it would ruin the tradition. Wondering who his new idol would choose as a first pokemon, the little boy stared nervously, trying to guess at which one he'd choose, if not the mystery ball.

Connor wasn't entirely sure what to make of the little Pikachu animation, so remained quiet as he watched it glumly imagine flying. How... interesting? He wasn't entirely sure what the word for it was, but whatever that word was, Pikachu was it. Now, he could see his options. A Doduo, Murkrow, Natu, or mystery Pokémon? Hm, this might be an easy decision.
Now, Doduo had probably the best moveset of the bunch, but it couldn't fly, which was a drawback for Connor. Perhaps not the Doduo, then. Murkrow and Natu were left, in that case. Natu's moveset was pretty terrible, to be honest. They didn't learn a single offensive move between level 6 and 36! Their evolution, Xatu, was even worse. Murkrow, on the other hand, he rather liked the look of. He wasn't sure whether he'd want to evolve it into Honchkrow, but that didn't matter.
He had made a decision. He could always choose the mystery ball, but that could mean he would end up with something he didn't want. From it, he might get a Pidgey, Spearow, Zubat, Farfetch'd, Scyther, Aerodactyl, Hoothoot, Ledyba, Hoppip, Yamna, Gligar, Delibird, Skarmory, Tailow, Wingull, Swablu, Tropius, Starly, Combee, Drifloon, Chatot or Mantyke. Some of these he liked, but others he wouldn't want to end up with. Not wanting to take the risk, he said, "I'll take the Murkrow, please."

The little boy nodded, and the Murkrow, happy it had been chosen, swooped down to land on the boys shoulder. The other two pokemon were returned, and Ted sent the pokeballs flying back up into the machine as it returned to normal. As he turned back around, Ted noticed that the pair looked pretty cool together- one was black, one was white. "You guys look SO COOL." he exclaimed. "Oh yeah! A starter pack! Here, it's got everything you need in it." he passed a bag to Connor, and then started listing off what was inside it.
"There's 4 potions, 4 oran beries, 5 pokeballs, one revive, and a map." He stated, finally.

Connor wasn't quite used to praise, but he took Ted's. The boy was genuinely pleased to see him, and impressed, too. He'd never been called 'cool' before. Freakish, yes, weird, odd, strange, stupid, that sort of thing. As for his new Murkrow... he was something he could apply the word 'cool' too. The bird was midnight black, with a nice sharp beak, sleek shape and nice wings. He was a bit like Connor's opposite, in a way. In appearances, at least. The 'morph didn't mind, and smiled at Ted as he handed him some items. "Thanks you!" he said happily as he left and headed to continue his journey.
