Finally, the time has come. Her mother gave her a painful smile, looking proud and worried at the same time. She let go of her daughter's shoulder, letting Darya wander free. "Good luck, my darling." "Thanks, mama. I'll be good." There was her trademark smile. Darya's father spoke up this time. "You watch yourself, and don't get into trouble." "I won't," Darya said in her usual flat voice. It was something she always had and couldn't change, making it hard for others to find emotion in her. But she had meant it this time, and her parents could tell. With their final goodbyes, she was off. Darya skipped merrily towards the dark setting sun, grinning wildly as she tiptoed up the steps of the laboratory's staircase. She pushed open the doors and walked in, observing the new enviornment. No one was there. Was she in the right place?

As Darya pushed open the door, a few bells hanging from the top jingled, announcing her arrival. Almost immediately, there was a crash from the basement.
"Oh- oh no-" A young man's voice, most likely, came from down the stairs to Darya's left. The shuffling of papers and files could be heard, and the unmistakable sound of a filing cabinet, as whoever was down there tried in desperation to stuff all of the papers and files back inside. They'd made a mess all over the floor, and it was important stuff.
"Oh! Come on down, please!" he called upstairs, scratching his head as he looked at the now hap-hazard drawer in the cabinet. He'd have to organize that as soon as he got the chance, or surely he'd forget where everything belonged. He lifted his hand and pushed back the sleeve of his white lab coat, checking his watch. It was almost sundown. Not that many trainers started their journeys this late- who could it be?
He looked up warily towards the staircase, trying to prepare himself for whoever came down the stairs. Sure, it was Peace Village, but Dr. Reese was particularly paranoid about getting robbed or mugged. It was around this time of the night that he became increasingly sketchy.

Darya's grin arched down and she put her hand to her mouth, curious as to why the voice sounded so distressed. She shrugged and turned chipper again, figuring she'd just have to find out rather than wait. Her feet lifted off the ground as she began to float toward the staircase, hair flicking like a tail in curiosity. She glided into the messy room and gently landed on a bare spot on the ground, looking upon the man. Darya reached down and picked some papers up, handing them to him as she spoke. "Hello, I'm Darya. Here are your papers. I'm here for my first pokemon but I can wait."

The professor looked at Darya in a panic for a moment, until he realised that she was another one of those pokemorphs. They were more and more common now, it seemed. "Thanks," he replied with a nervous smile, taking them gratefully. "No, no, don't worry about it, we can start right away."
Still, he moved about for a moment pushing papers to the side and clearing the floor. Soon enough, it looked the same- save for the stuffed-to-the-brim filing cabinet. The man headed for a machine on the side of the room, sat himself down in a spinning chair, and turned to face Darya. He crossed one leg over another, ankle resting on knee, and looked at the banette morph expectantly.
"Oh, right, Darya. It's a pleasure. I'm Professor Robin." he smiled, happy to meet such a polite new trainer. "Do you know which sort of pokemon you'd like?"

Darya kicked a paper or two to the side, mimicking the professor. She skipped on over to the machine, tilting her body and eyeing it curiously. "Wow, what a machine. I wonder who made it. Probably underpaid depressed workers." Shesmiled brightly, oblivious to her own comment.
"Do I know? Not really. I like all pokemon. I've made friends with all different types all my life."Darya blinkind her slit red eyes in thought.
"However I get along most with Dark and Ghost pokemon. So I guess I'd have to say Dark. Mmhmm." She nodded her head, affirming with herself her own choice.

He watched as she came right over to the machine and blinked, his mouth dropping open as he almost asked her to stay a little further away. After a moment, though, it was clear that she wasn't interested in wreaking havoc on the million-dollar technology.
"Um-" he opened his mouth to say No, that's not it at all, but she was right. He resisted the urge to laugh, and instead focused on what she said next, watching her curiously. He felt like she was controlling the situation much more than he was. When she finally decided on Dark, he hurriedly punched the word into the machine, and then fixed his glasses as it sputtered into action.
"Dark, yes. A good type indeed," he agreed. His first pokemon had been a dark type. He stood up and grabbed three of the pokeballs from the machine, tossing them out into the room and hoping they wouldn't mess it up even more than he had already.
The first was a cat with a curly tail- the Purrloin looked up at Darya with an even stare, but was distracted as a Murkrow popped out next to her, flapped its wings, and let out a squawk. The last, a small dog-looking pokemon landed nimbly on the ground. The Zorua looked up, studied its surroundings for a moment, and then transformed, taking the appearance of a small boy, probably around 6 or 7. He looked at Darya through blue eyes, and scratched at his cheeks, which were covered in freckles. It was a convincing disguise.
The professor nearly lost his composure. The shapeshifting pokemon had always scared him. Nonetheless, he held the mystery ball with a hard grip, and looked at the trainer curiously.
"So, there you've got a Purrloin, Murkrow, and... Zorua," he said shakily. "The mystery ball, here, is another random level 5 dark pokemon. If you don't like any of those, you can pick this one, but you're not allowed to go back on your decision. So... what'll it be?"

Darya's eyes widened upon seeing the Zorua, as anyone would seeing such a rare creature before them. She reached down to pet it when suddenly it shapeshifted, catching her off guard. She stepped back, somewhat alarmed but more fascinated by the creature's powers. "Wow, that's amazing."
Darya looked at the two other pokemon. Cats were nice to sit and pet, and birds were nice since they could float beside her.. But Zorua was just too alluring and rare to just give up. Why couldn't she just choose all the pokemon?
"I've made my choice, Professor Robin. I'd like Muffin. I mean, the Zorua. Sorry, I already named it."

"No surprise," the man replied, lifting his glasses somewhat and scrubbing them on hi lab coat. The three pokemon were returned to his pokeballs, the Zorua returning to its normal state before disappearing. He took the pokeball and grabbed a bag from the other side of the room, and handed them both to Darya, smiling slightly.
"Here you go."

"Thank you," she said as she took the assets, giving a little bow in respect to the kind man's services. She skipped merrily toward the stairs, giving a wave before she dissappeared up them, shouting, "Have a good day! Don't trip and knock your brains out, or anything else that requires medical attention!" Clutching Muffin's pokeball, Dary knew this adventure would be the time of her life.
