Hinako had been walking around the trail, on route four. Somewhere she had heard about a man who would heal pokemon. Well, that wasn't it either. The man was supposed to be a master trainer who even defeated the elite four!
As Hinako walked, she thought about the marill she had caught, Bubble. She thought about Ember, who sat in his pokeball. The two could really use some healing before they went anywhere, and so Hinako pulled out the balls, sending them out, first Bubble, then Ember.
<Grr... She let you out first? Why you?> Ember barked as he was released after Bubble.
<Ah shutup bully.> Bubble said to Ember in the language Hinako wouldn't understand. Clearly she didn't get along with this one, and why should she? She didn't really have a reason to forgive Ember for barking in her... Ears?
Hinako saw that the two seemed like they pretty much hated eachother, and she pulled out a potion, saying, "Hey, guys, c'mon, wanna heal up?"
<Bet she heals me first, newbie,> Ember said running up to Hinako and sitting down, waiting to see what Bubble would do as Hinako sprayed him with the first of her potions.
<Newbie...> The little blue puffball's tail straightened out with anger for a moment before she walked up to Hinako.
Hinako pulled out her other potion, spraying Bubble with it. She pulled out and consulted her map. She figured she was probably pretty close to this guy, and upon looking up, she saw a house-like figure in the distance. She held out each of their balls, and said, "Sorry guys, you're gonna have to wait a bit."
And with that, she walked off towards the figure, knocking on the door when she arrived. "OI, ya in there?"

His eyes were shut. Nothing had happened for so long...he hadn't been out of the house for forever, not since he'd bought groceries a while ago. He was supposed to be napping. So much for that...someone's here...? "Mmm," he grumbled to himself, and his eyes opened, squinting forwards as he focused on the familiar room ahead of him. Lifting his eyes to the corner of the room, he stared into a pair of red eyes, who looked back at him until it's real form materialized in the form of a Mismagius. It stayed floating there, and then looked down at the large dog-like pokemon sleeping on the floor. "Goodness gracious," Mushi complained, getting up and walking slowly over to the large orange creature, poking it with the end of his slipper. "Get up already." Finally, he headed towards the door.
"OI, ya in there?" "What a rude way to address someone's house," he stated, loud enough for her to hear, opening the door and looking at Hinako. Although Mushi was short, his dark blue eyes had seen a lot in life, and he obviously carried himself with a lot of dignity. His eyebrows furrowed as he studied her. A new trainer. He yawned. "Have more respect. Well, come in, come in. I'll make some tea." He turned, leaving the door open for her and pointing to a table where she could sit. The house wasn't decorated too much; a TV sat at the end of the room, and although it was on, the volume was so low you could hardly hear it. Bookshelves covered an entire wall, and were completely full of books. There were lots stacked on top of them, even; and on top of one particular stack, a Plusle was lounging. On the other side of the room was a couch and a few chairs; in front of the fireplace, like a typical dog, an Arcanine was lying down, it's sheer size taking up the majority of the living space. The Mismagius was still floating in the corner, watching Mushi, who was watching a kettle and trying to get some glasses out of a cupboard.
"Take a seat."

"Have more respect. Well, come in, come in. I'll make some tea."
Hinako stepped in, shrugging apologeticly. Was this guy sleeping or something? Well, either way… Wait a minute, it was the middle of the afternoon! Wow, this guy was old. And not just a little old either, if he was dead asleep in the middle of the afternoon… Sheesh. She looked at the arcanine from the corner of her eye and thought about her houndour, Ember. She thought about the moment she had met the little guy, and how he had just curled up at her feet… He was the only one there she had eyes for, and looking at the Arcanine she wondered if this guy had felt the same way about that dog-like pokemon.
Sitting down in the chair, she simultaneously pulled her backpack off of her back and onto her lap, holding it to make sure that none of her pokeballs –especially the ones that contained Ember and Bubble- fell out. Luckily they didn’t, and the way she held it they wouldn’t.
I wonder how long this guy’s been a trainer for? Hinako thought to herself, not wanting to come across any ruder than she already had. She could be impudent, but she wasn’t always like that. It was really just her inner (and outer) tomboy kicking in and surfacing.

Walking back to the table, he put the kettle down on the wooden surface and poured himself a cup, taking in the scent for a moment before taking a sip. It seemed to wake him up a bit, and he shook his head with a bit of a shudder at the flavour before straightening up. Then he stood up, stretching his arm across the table to place a cup in front of Hinako if she wanted any tea. "Much better." he said with a smile, and then looked back at Hinako. Then he stood up, stretching his arm across the table to place a cup in front of Hinako if she wanted any tea. "I'm afraid I don't have any pop or juice for you young folks," he chuckled a bit, "But tea is good for the mind." Pausing, he studied her for a moment, and then put his cup back down on the table. "My name's Mushi." he finally said, realizing he hadn't introduced himself. "I was a pokemon trainer for twenty years. After defeating the elite four, I became a pokemon breeder for a little while, and then I worked in a daycare with my wife." he paused, wondering if he had missed anything. It was a pretty straight forward story. Still, Mushi thought it sounded a bit too awkward. "Enough about me. What's your name? Did you just start being a pokemon trainer?" he asked, curious. It was a tough decision to choose what pokemon to give the trainers as they left, but he needed to know more about her anyways. Their personalities always corresponded with someone. It was interesting to see how well they got along with their new friends. Every now and then, one would stop by and tell him a real thank-you for the gift he'd given them so many years before. Still, it was nice to have visitors every now and then. There was a high-pitched yawn from the other side of the room, and the Arcanine was stretching it's large paws across the floor. Turning, it walked over to their table, sitting down right next to it and plopping his head on the surface of the table. It was the perfect height to be a chin rest for him. His ears twitched pointlessly, and he looked between Mushi and Hinako, half-listening to their conversation.

Hinako watched as the man placed a cup of tea on the table in front of her. She let it sit for a moment, not wanting to burn her tounge or anything, and she guessed it may have been misinterperted, because the man then said, "I'm afraid I don't have any pop or juice for you young folks."
Ah well, nothing that could be done about a simple misinterpertation. Hinako still held her backpack close to her, listening as the man came up with a my-life-story-in-thirty-words-or-less type of story.
"My name's Mushi. I was a pokemon trainer for twenty years. After defeating the elite four, I became a pokemon breeder for a little while, and then I worked in a daycare with my wife."
Hinako looked at him for a moment. This guy was a trainer for 20 entire years? That was ancient compared to Hinako who had just started a day or two ago. Then she heard the next words come:
"Enough about me. What's your name? Did you just start being a pokemon trainer?"
Hinako straightened out for a moment before she answered, "I'm Hinako, and yeah... I just started ahh... Yesterday or the day before." She scratched the back of her head as the Arcanine placed its huge head on the table. She looked at him for a moment and then she turned her attention back to the man it front of her, Mushi.
Growlithes become Arcanine, right? Wow... That's one big growth spirt... She thought to herself, not saying anything more.

"So from Fighting City, I suppose? Or Marble Village? What pokemon do you have so far?" he asked, a little curious. So she was really new at this. Well, it was interesting to see how they looked. If it wasn't for all of his photos being destroyed after so many years, he would have loved to see again what he looked like when he'd first started out with his Growlithe.
Pausing, he took another sip of tea and sighed. This was really waking him up. He already had a few ideas, but he needed to hear more, still, before he made any sort of a conclusion.

"Marble Village," Hinako said, answering where he came from before stopping and saying, "And before that I came from some place outside of Sasqui, and before that somewhere in the Johto region..." When he asked her what pokemon she had so far, she patted her backback and said, "A Houndour and a Marill... But they don't like eachother much... At all..."
She had a sense that Ember was getting competitive and thought that he had to really prove himself to Hinako or something, and Bubble clearly wasn't too happy about it...

Mushi dipped his head in understanding, nodding to her. From out of Sasqui... "Johto, hmm? Far far away..." he nodded, taking another sip of tea and listening to her. "A Houndour and a Marill...but they don't like eachother much...At all..." Perfect. Mushi thought to himself, a small grin planting on his face.
"Sounds like quite the team so far. Do they need any resting up? I have some pokefood in storage if they want." The Arcanine with his head on the table perked his ears, staring unblinkingly at Mushi as he heard what the old man had said.

"Probably," Hinako said, finally reaching forward and taking a sip of the tea. She wasn't too sure how Bubble might react to say... An Arcanine stepping on her tail, or even just Ember's barking. The little puffball was so upset so easily.
The grin that he flashed made Hinako wonder why. Had she said something funny or something?

Upon hearing Hinako's response, the look on the Arcanine's face became even more expectant, and he got up, his tail wagging as he let out a bark. <Hurry up. I'm starving.> "I fed you already today! Goodness gracious, now that we're not training as much you're becoming fat and lazy." Mushi said to the large dog, who was already in the small kitchen, attempting to open the food cupboard with his claws. <You're one to talk,> the large dog replied, stuffing his nose into the cupboard and opening it. Mushi stopped, blinking, and then laughed heartily. "Good point! Alright, here we go. Kaze, get me some dishes, will you?" The Mismagius from the corner responded silently by getting four dishes out of a cupboard without even moving from his spot. They floated down to the floor next to the table, and then the Mismagius's red eyes shut, and he disappeared completely.
<Food?> a little squeak came from the far side of the room as the Plusle woke up, and wandered over to the dishes, staring at them and then looking up at Hinako. Mushi nodded, coming over and pouring some food into the dishes, looking over at Hinako. "Go ahead and let them out, then. This is one of my best pokefood recipes." The Arcanine and the Plusle had already set to eating out of their dishes as Mushi put the bag away, returning to the table.

I really hope these guys don't get competitive over this...
"Ok..." Hinako pulled the balls out of the pocket from her backpack, and she opened them up, letting the first one glow red and reveal a small black dog, a Houndour, Ember. He barked automaticly upon being released from the pokeball.
<Alright, whatcha want me to do this- hey wait a second, who the heck is that? And that? And you?!> Ember said, looking from the man, to the plusle and then to the Arcanine. He looked back at Hinako with what looked like an innocent shrug for a moment, and then he sniffed the air. <Food?!>
The second pokemon, Bubble, the irratible Marill came out with a sigh of sorts. <You're too jumpy Ember.>
<Better than you, slowpoke!> Ember barked with a smirk.
<Why you little-!> Bubble said before Hinako intervened, scooping up the angry puffball before she could tackle Ember.
"You guys..." Hinako said, sort of embarassed.

Mushi grinned faintly as he watched the pokemon. "Reminds you of the good ol' days, hmm?" he said, looking down at the Arcanine and Plusle. Immediately, the Arcanine looked up at Mushi, smiling as a fang appeared on his mouth. <I always won against him anyways.> Without even replying, the Plusle sent a small wave of electricity at the large fire dog, sending his fur up and continuing to eat silently. Chuckling a bit, Mushi picked up the bowl for Bubble from the floor and put it on the table. "Might be easier to keep them separated."

"Yeah, probably," Hinako said, holding Bubble close to her, leaving Ember on the floor with a look that said, "Oh sure, playing favorites?" Ironic, because the little guy wanted to be the favorite, and so long as it was him, he didn't care.
<I beat a water tpye on my first try! Hahaha! How's THAT Bubble-chan?> Ember said before taking a bite of his food. The strange thing was, Hinako was begining to understand what it was that Ember was saying.
<You got lucky, that's all. If I knew a water attack you'd've lost, big time.> Bubble said, closing her eyes with annoyance before taking a bite of food.
<Sure, sure, beleive whatever you want.> Ember said before returning to his food.

Mushi smiled as he listened to the two pokemon. He was grateful he knew poketongue, but it was only thanks to pokemon DNA being placed in him, as well. A pain in some ways, convenient in others. He shrugged inwardly and then looked back at Hinako. "Well, I suppose it's time to do what I do everytime a trainer comes by. Would you like a free pokemon?" he asked casually, raising an eyebrow as he stood up from his chair, looking expectant.

When Hinako heard the question, she looked at Mushi. A pokemon was always a good thing, but what did he mean free? She tilted her head slightly and asked, "Yes, but why?"
Ember perked up looking at Hinako and then at the man. <Great, this means I have more to compete with...> He thought to himself as he returned to eating.
Bubble on the other hand widened her eyes, doing a double take at Ember and at Hinako. She wasn't too in love with the idea of being stuck with a clone of Ember or something like that, and she really had no intention of letting that be the case.
