Sun has fallen, but no moon, no starts, not even the darkness of the night sky can be seen. Only dunes of violet sand and navy blue jets streams of sand swerving through the air as the weepy indigo cumulonimbus clouds looming the sky know ready to cry. It was very cold, and painful to bare with. Penello was still, cringed from the wind burrowing himself into the sand for protection.
Penello was unable to leave the storm due to the fact that his companion Vex has vanished, along with Laertes, Penello's only Pokemon. It was this reason that Penello spent the day trying to locate these two till night fall. Now left defenceless for both the weather and other Pokemon.
The looming clouds are starting to roar, Penello looks up from his position and sees that the storm has started from the west, jagged rods flashed neon blue and soon followed thunderous roars. "It's the wrath of the Raikou it seems." Penello begins speaking with a strong hint of worry in his tone. "If I say close to the ground,...maybe it's help me evade the lightning." another flash stormed down to the ground lighting his face from the white flashing. moments later the skies screamed. "The thunder sure is paralyzing." Penello head moved away from the approaching storm and back to his defensive position covering himself from head to ground with his thick beige tarp usually used for building up his tend for raining nights.

A sandshrew grudged unhappily through the downpouring rain. Even though the droplets slid right down his built-in armor, the little guy still looked as miserable as a sopping wet Glameow. It was cold, it was dark, it was stormy right above his head. How was he supposed to be happy? Looking around, he saw a weary looking human travelling opposite of his direction. The desert creature made himself looked as unhappy as he could, to see if he could capture Penello's attention. Hopefully the boy would care enough to notice.

The storm has already caught up to him. The the rain drops diving down from the weeping clouds. The winds blowing strongly grabbing Penello's tarp and trying to pull it off him. But Penello resists the pulling and. grabs old of the tarp tightly around his body like a game of tug-of-war between to siblings fighting over for a turn with their toys. Thankfully his tarp is strong enough to bare the pulling and still manage to do its job. Penello kept dry this entire time of the storm and he hopes that it will continue as it is.
Penello now needs to find better shelter from the storm, luckily the lightning had stopped, or at least for now. He quickly uncovers his head to see if there is any large cave like rock and simply just any rock large enought to fight back the wind would be great. He sees nothing in front, nothing to the left, and nor to the right, then he sees a lump in the sand just behind him. 'It's a little small but I think I'll manage.' The strong sandy winds and black air and drizzling made it difficult for Penello to distinguish the fact that the small rock was actually a miserable sandshew. It shocked Penello when he noticed this fact, but it didn't bother him really nor did it disappoint him. He saw that the poor this was sickened by the weather and that that he might as well help him, especially since Pokemon like him don't like the water very much. "Hey there little guy, look miserable under all that rain. You want to hind under this blanket with me? It'll keep you dry and warm? Just a hasle to hold down with all this wind." Penello have the sand pokemon a warm smile hoping that he won't startle him to much and get hurt by this fact.

Relief flooded over the Sandshrew as the human offered him a spot under his tarp. It stood up on two legs, shook off the wet sand that was clumping on him and crawled under the giant blanket. <Oh, thank you mister!> he cried happily near Penello's legs. <I don't ask for much, just.. Somewhere dry to stay as I look for my burrow..> The tiny Sandshrew sounded worried as he spoke. He also sounded young, probably still at a age where he shouldn't be out all alone.
<I'm sorta lost. And a little bit exhausted.>

Penello closed up the gap of his blanket to block of the heavy rain and wind. He looks down at the now more relaxed sandshrew him a smile as a 'Your Welcome' the the little guy's thanks. He opens his mouth to reply stressing a bit about the winds continuously pulling the tarp. "I think we both need a rest don't you think?" Penello began burrowing his feet in the wet sand to that he won't be budged by the blowing wind. Once he's done so he looks back at the sandshrew and began talking again. "Once the storm clears up a but more we'll keep going and try find your way, sounds good? Besides, I can't leave the desert till I find my own traveling companion."

The Sandshrew nodded, wiping a claw over his tiny eyes in exhaustion. <Oh yes. I need to take a little rest..> He had been having such a fun and exciting day before this ugly storm hit the desert. Now he was stuck in this situation with no energy left to spare. At least a nice human was here for him.
Even thought the Sandshrew was tired, it seemed to light up with excitement as Penello uttered the words "travelling companion". <Travelling companion? Is he a Squirtle?> He seemed oddly excited to find this out as he bounced under the blanket.

Penello's smile grew warmer the moment the little Sandshrew lit up with joy while he asked Penello about is companion. Penello's face became a bit pink from embarrassment from the joy. Penello takes a deep breath, thinks for a moment, then begins speaking. "Well your pretty close, he's a Charmander, and his name is Laertes. And he's really quit too, but if you meet up with him, maybe you could give him a little motivation. But...yeah some travel made had to just disappear, poof, and happens to take Laertes along with him." Penello now remembered why it is that he is still in the desert in the dark and caught up in a mass storm. He became a little angry and looked at the sand below him to avoid eye contact with the Sandshrew.
By looking down, he noticed something good out of it all, he suddenly faced the Sandshrew again and said, "Anyway, if it wasn't for that, sure I wouldn't be suck in the desert at night,...and be in the middle of a storm,...looking for them and all." Penello took a moment to take another breath. Once he did he grinned warmly at the jolly Sandshrew and continued to speak. "But I wouldn't have met you. If I didn't come by, you would still be in the storm without any protection from the wind and and rain fall unlike now. Warm and dry, a little sandy but that's something you can't avoid when being in a desert."

The Sandshrew looked confused for a second. <Charmander? What's that? I only know about Squirtles and Desert creatures...> He began to mumble, since Penello was still talking.
The desert shrew stared at the boy, even smiling a little. He was lost too? What were the chances?
He blushed a bit too as Penello spoke of him positively. <Yeah, and I wouldn't have meet you either I guess. We'd both still be miserable and alone if we hadn't meant. If only your Lah... Lat..> The Sandshrew stumbled with the Charmander's name. <…Laertes friend were here too.>
<Oh! By the way, my name's Borin. What's yours?>

Penello laughed a little and began grinning very wide. "Yeah, and I bet I'd like you and you two would become friends. As well as you giving him a bit of motivation to being a little more social." Penello made a deep sigh as he finished and continued to listen to the little Sandshrew.
After the Sandshrew was done speaking which he learned that his name was Borin, "That's a cool name Borin!" Penello gave Borin another big Grin back at him and replied to his question at the end of his sentence. "Mine's Penello, kind of a girls name, but its alright I guess, it suits be after all." Penello looked up for a moment wonder why was it that his parents gave him the name he has, Then Penello suddenly noticed that the storm was much lighter then it did a while ago. He still felt the strong wind on his back but it's force is not as heavy as it was before. Along with the lack of the noise of the fast falling water or the booming from the lightning strikes.
Penello came back from his thoughts then stared back down at Borin with a serious face."Feels like the storm is lightening up, I don't hear the thunder anymore and it doesn't feel like its raining anymore. Winds still pretty strong but not bad a before. Want to start looking around for your home?"

Borin held his feet as he wiggled them, something he did as a baby but still held on to. He had grown a bit since the first time he'd been out of his den, and since then the Sandshrew had been a brave explorer. Maybe too brave, since he'd gotten lost so many times.
Borin tilted his head to him. <Penello? Hey, that's a cool name! I don't think it sounds girly at all.> He wondered why he thought that at all, but then again names didn't matter too much to him. <My brother's name is Boulder. I think that's cool too,> Borin added, feeling like he wanted to throw that out there.
Borin lifted his nose and smelled the air. <You think so? Let's just check, then.> The Sandshrew got on his knees like a soldier and began to crawl out of the large tarp.

Penello giggled a little at the site of the little Sandshrew crawling his way out from under the tarp. He thought that it would be easier if Penello just lifted the tarp from being on top of them both. That way if it really was no longer raining and thundering, Penello could start packing his tarp in his pack all at once. But he choose not to so he wouldn't waist Borin's effort crawling out.
Once Borin was out from under the tarp Penello asked him, "So? Has the storm pretty much stopped?" Penello thought a bit more as he waited for Borin's reply. Maybe it would seem like Penello was lazy waiting for Borin the reply to his question before he comes out himself. But he also thought that what if he imagined that the storm let up and was still pouring, if Penello kept the tarp above his head, Borin could just dash in instead of having to struggle with the weather to get it back over their head as he's done before when he first wiped out the tarp. In the end Penello just waited for his answer

<Hum.. It's still raining, but it's very soft,> Borin's voice called out. <The sky still looks all grey and scary, but I think it's lightening up.> Borin laid there for a moment, staring at the sky in thought. His tail flicked curiously, and he waddled back into the wide space in the tarp, taking a seat next to Penello again.
He sat in silence forba while, until he looked up at the trainer with big, curious eyes. <So tell me about Laertes. What does he look like?>

"Still raining huh?" Penello let out a soft sigh, seems like he's looking forward to seeing a clear sky anytime soon, just not yet. "Guess we are going to have to wait it out for a bit more." Penello thought a bit about Borin's question, well what better time to tell stories then now right? So Penello settled him self down again, quickly thanking himself for not lifting his tarp like he was planning to.
Penello started to think more about Borin's question now, "Laertes?" Penello hummed a bit with a questioning tone and thought a bit more about the question.
"How Laertes looks like? Lets see, he's like a little orange-red lizard that stands on his two hind legs at all times much like a human. He has a pretty round head too. Got short stubby arms, really not much good and he can still scratch you pretty hard. Well seems painful when he does on Vex. Oh, and a think long stiff tail with a small hot flame at the end. People say that if the flame ever does go out, he could die."
Penello began looking a little worried about that especially with the storm blowing outside of the tarp. Is the harsh enough to kill him? Well most likely, of course!

The Sandshrew looked surprised at Penello's description of a Charmander. <Woah! That sounds nothing like a Squirtle! That really does deserve a different name.> Borin looked distracted as he daydreamed about all the different creatures that lived out of the desert. How many were there?
Soon the shrew's imagination juice ran out, and he looked at Penello's grave face. He blinked, trying to remember what he had just said. <Ohno!> Borin said, raising his claws to his mouth. <So he could be dead any moment now?> But I never got to see a Charmander before! I never will! Oh, I hate the Desert! he thought rebelliously.

"Ah!" Penello was in sudden shock, he didn't realized the fact that Laertes could die in these conditions. Penello became depressed and his face turned pale and covered with cold sweat, filling his mind with the possible death of his new and dear companion.
Penello then thought to himself that he had to stop thing about these horrible thoughts. He needs to be hopeful! "We...we have to think positive. Kay? Don't...don't think or say to much about him dieing okay?" Penello thought a bit of what he could do at the moment and realized something he didn't think of before. "Well, Laertes is with Vex after all. Vex wouldn't let Laertes die! Not when he, himself, is friends with Laertes too. Actually, I think Laertes likes Vex better then me..." Penello got lost in thought again thinking about what he had just said. Ponders on the reasons of why his dear lizard friend favors Vex more then himself.
